LMU's Global Conversations Series presents
Jori LewisJoin us for Loyola Marymount University's Global Conversations Series. Presented by the Office of the Provost, the Marymount Institute for Faith, Culture, and the Arts, and the Division of Student Affairs, the series brings distinguished scholars, artists, activists, writers, entrepreneurs, and creative leaders to LMU to engage, challenge, and inspire our community through meaningful dialogue.
The Global Conversations Series is pleased to welcome Jori Lewis, an award-winning journalist and author of Slaves for Peanuts: A Story of Conquest, Liberation, and a Crop That Changed History and A Natural History of the Spirits. Lewis will speak on Nov. 16, 2026 from 4–5:30 p.m. in University Hall's Ahmanson Auditorium (UHall 1000) at Loyola Marymount University. RSVP coming soon.
Jori Lewis writes narrative nonfiction that explores how people interact with their environments. Her reports and essays have been published in The Atlantic Magazine, Orion Magazine and The New York Review of Books, among others, and she is the editor in chief of Adi Magazine, a literary magazine of global politics.
Her first book, Slaves for Peanuts: A Story of Conquest, Liberation, and a Crop That Changed History, won a Whiting Creative Nonfiction Grant, a Silvers Grant, a James Beard media award, and the Harriet Tubman Prize.

PARKING
Please enter campus via Lincoln Boulevard. Parking will be available in University Hall. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the start of the presentation to allow time for parking and locating the event.
Please note that LMU charges visitors to park. Pay kiosks are located in each lot. You will need your license plate number to register your vehicle at the kiosk. Parking and rate information is available.
