August 30, 2021
Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share that Nina Heard, senior administrative coordinator in the Controller’s Office, passed away from cancer on Aug. 21, 2021. She was 60 years old.

Mrs. Heard joined LMU in 2004 as a payroll specialist and in her 17 years became a valued contributor to the university community. Embodying cura personalis, Mrs. Heard was best known for her warm personality and positive attitude, always going the extra mile to assist with inquiries from the community. She was instrumental in training and mentoring student workers who staffed the Controller’s Office. Her generous spirit extended to the health and well-being of her colleagues as she captained many LMU Wellness program challenges. Mrs. Heard also supported and trained LMU employees through implementation of new enterprise systems, including myTime and Concur.

As a champion for student success, she served as a mentor for Verbum Dei High School’s Corporate Work Study program, where she supervised several students on their career paths over a 10-year period. Mrs. Heard was involved in her church, taught Sunday school, and served as a Bible study leader at L.A. County Juvenile Hall.

Services are pending and will be announced when available.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support neuroscience research in Mrs. Heard’s name to the Pacific Neuroscience Institute or to St. John’s Health Center Foundation.

Please keep Nina, her family, and her many friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
