Message from the President
June 2, 2021

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share that Kerry Welsh, a sophomore biochemistry major, died Saturday, May 29, 2021, in a traffic accident. She was 18 years old.

Kerry had earned an academic scholarship to the university and was a promising student in the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering and in the Honors Program. She planned to go to medical school after LMU.

At Glendora High School, Kerry was the Class of 2020’s Salutatorian and a soccer player who was named the female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Kerry was also a research intern at City of Hope and volunteered at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital.

Student Psychological Services, Community of Care, and the Dean of Students are available to speak with students who seek support amidst this tragedy.

Information about funeral services will be shared soon. We will remember Kerry with a plaque bearing her name at our student memorial, Ad Astra per Aspera.

Please keep Kerry, her parents, Albert and Chiarra, her sister, and her many friends in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
