John S. Kiralla, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Communications, and External Relations (CMO/CCO)

John S. Kiralla, senior vice president for marketing, communications, and external relations, was appointed on September 1, 2016 (press release). He also served as interim senior vice president for University Advancement from FY2020 to FY2021.

Reporting to the president, Kiralla is the university's spokesperson and oversees marketing, communications, external relations, and public affairs functions and strategies. His division leads teams that improve relationships with internal and external stakeholders, elevate the university's reputation, advance the university's visibility efforts, and position its brand for global impact, including: communications, marketing, media and public relations, government and public affairs, crisis communications, internal communications, web and digital solutions, creative and design, and the university's radio stations. Kiralla and the LMU MarComm team have been honored for their work on, social media, and other MarComm products by the Webbys, CASE, Graphis, W3, AMA, SPD, UCDA, and other international awarding bodies. LMU Magazine, the nation's most recognized university magazine, has received over 47 awards since 2011.

Kiralla is an LMU alumnus with over two decades' experience in marketing, digital strategy, and communications. Prior to this post, he served as LMU's executive director for marketing and communications and led several major initiatives: the comprehensive redesign of, the LMYOU internal communications campaign, The University of Silicon Beach™ marketing campaign, and the public relations dimensions of hosting world leaders on LMU's campus. Prior to that, he held marketing and communications positions at Collegis Eduprise, Sungard Higher Education, and Apple. Kiralla is active in various professional organizations and speaks on topics related to brand development, change management, leadership and perception management, and technology policy.
