Updates to L.A. County Quarantine Period

12.22.20

The L.A. County Department of Public Health shortened the required quarantine period to 10 days for individuals who have been in close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19, those returning from out of state travel, and those who have recently participated in a higher-risk activity as defined by the CDC.

The CDC, California Department of Public Health, and Los Angeles Department of Public Health define higher-risk activities, as applicable to the self-quarantine mandate, below:

  • Travel to destinations outside of California;
  • Travel on a cruise ship or river boat;
  • Attend a gathering or crowded event, such as a wedding, funeral, party, concert, or parade, with individuals outside of your household or outside of your COVID pod.

Individuals are now required to self-quarantine (stay in their home or another residence, separate from others) and monitor for symptoms for 10 days after contact with a positive case, return from travel, or the end of the high-risk activity. Once the 10-day window is complete, individuals should continue to closely monitor their health, wear a face covering around others (even those within their household), and maintain six feet of physical distance for an additional four days.

If during quarantine you develop symptoms, follow self-isolation instructions immediately. For those with campus access, please call the COVID Support Team at 310.568.6868 for further guidance.

LMU Together and the Lion Heath Check will be updated to reflect these revisions.

Please continue to monitor the L.A. County Department of Public Health Home Quarantine Instructions for the latest information.
