CDC Issues New Mask Recommendations

02.16.21

Effective February 2, masks are required on all forms of public transportation within the United States as well as traveling in to or out of the U.S. The CDC issued new recommendations for choosing the proper mask for you:

DO choose a mask that:

  • Has 2+ layers of breathable fabric
  • Completely covers your nose and mouth, and fits snugly against the sides of your face – without any gaps
  • Has a nose wire, to prevent air from leaking out the top of the mask

DON’T choose a mask that:

  • Is made of fabric that makes it hard to breathe, for example vinyl
  • Has exhalation valves or vents, which allow particles to escape
  • Are intended for healthcare workers, including N95 respirators

Special considerations:

  • If wearing a neck gaiter, choose one with two layers, or fold it to make two layers
  • Please remember, face shields are not permitted on the LMU campus unless part of an accommodation by Disability Support Service or Human Resources
