Provost Updates: Gratitude to Dr. David Sapp for His Service to LMU
May 13, 2026
Dear LMU Community,
I write to express my appreciation for David Sapp, Ph.D., who will be stepping down from his role as Vice Provost for Academic Administration and returning to the faculty.
Since joining LMU in 2015, David has contributed in meaningful ways to the academic life of the university. As Vice Provost for Academic Administration—and previously as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Education—he has provided steady leadership across a range of important areas. His oversight of LMU Extension, AFROTC, and several institutional partnerships has supported the university’s academic mission and operations.
David’s work reflects a commitment to academic quality, collaboration, and institutional progress. He has contributed to accreditation efforts, the development of academic programs, and external funding initiatives that have advanced university priorities as well as work in the Los Angeles community. His ability to work across units and bring colleagues together has been an asset to the institution.
A scholar in educational leadership and technical communication, David has also remained engaged in teaching and research, contributing to LMU’s academic community through his scholarship and global engagement.
I want to express appreciation for David’s contributions to Academic Affairs and the Provost’s Office.
Please join me in thanking David for his service to LMU and in wishing him well as he returns to the faculty. We look forward to his continued work with students and in his field.
With appreciation,
Kat Weaver, Ph.D.
