NTT Unionization Update and Resources

January 17, 2024

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

In my message on November 20, I promised to update you on the recent efforts to unionize our non-tenure track (NTT) faculty. To ensure consistency and transparency in the guidance we share and to provide answers to some questions we have received and anticipate, Human Resources has developed a website with FAQs. We will continue to add updates to the FAQs as they become available. A form can be found on the website to submit questions about unionization efforts. I will continue to work with our colleagues in Human Resources to ensure the timely provision of additional information.

Along with LMU leadership, I am proud of the many policy and practice changes that have gone into effect over the last decade to support our NTT faculty. These include improvements to teaching resources, professional development opportunities, research-related offerings, and contract considerations. I detailed these improvements last spring in my convocation address, but I also acknowledge that this work is ongoing, requires many stakeholders, and is ever-evolving. The university unequivocally stands with our NTT faculty and sees them as an integral part of our community. We continue to acknowledge the NTT faculty’s right to organize and vote in a secret ballot election without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

We will continue to share as much information as we can as you engage in your own fact-finding process.

Sincerely,

Thomas Poon, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President and Provost
Professor of Chemistry
