Angie Rochat
Angie Rochat, M.A, serves as assistant vice provost for research at Loyola Marymount University. She oversees the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP), with a threefold mission: 1) to enhance the environment for research and creative activities at LMU; 2) to encourage and facilitate external funding for faculty and staff projects; and, 3) to support the university’s pursuit of academic excellence. The primary purpose of the office is to assist faculty and staff in obtaining funding from sources external to the university – including government agencies, foundations, corporations, and nonprofit associations that advance LMU’s creative, scholarly, and research activities. ORSP staff provide expertise in negotiating collaborations and contracts with other institutions and organizations, with navigating the application development and submission process, and assist with identifying funding opportunities to support faculty and staff research interests. Rochat joined LMU in 2019 after serving as director of Sponsored Research and Federal Relations at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where she oversaw sponsored research and coordinated federal lobbying activity. She has been in research and sponsored projects for over 20 years. Since arriving at LMU, she has doubled the research portfolio to $20 million in support of LMU’s R2 status. She enjoys proposal development, teamwork (and maintaining a sense of humor). At the time she joined LMU, Rochat was the co-lead for a $1 million project funded by the Lumina Foundation that involved 26 Native American Serving, Non-Tribal Institutions titled “Reducing the Postsecondary Attainment Gap for American Indians and Alaska Natives: Linking Policy and Practice” to increase the postsecondary attainment of American Indian and Alaska Native students (AI/AN students). She is currently the lead of a $7.2 million project funded by the National Science Foundation titled Tri-Alliance for Post Award Innovation, a partnership with Santa Clara University and the University of San Francisco that is committed to advancing research excellence by coordinating collaborative activities, and sharing resources among three California-based, Association of Jesuit Colleges and University (AJCU). She is the current chair of the AJCU Jesuit Research Administrator (JRA) network. She served on National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) PUI committee, was the first fellow at the Center for Minority Serving Institutions at the University of Pennsylvania, and has served as an Advisory Board member for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Grants Resource Center. At LMU she serves on the University Research Committee, Enterprise Technology Committee, and Intellectual Property Committee. Rochat earned her M.A. in public policy from New England College and her B.A. in English from The Ohio State University.
