The Digital Veterans legacy Project (DVLP) is a collaboration between Loyola Marymount University (LMU), local high schools, and community and veteran’s groups. Together our teams support high school and college students to conduct research about underrepresented veterans and create digital resources about these soldiers. The work is designed to expand educational opportunities for young people to learn about under-explored histories, share the work of our local veteran’s cemetery and capitalize on student creativity in sharing stories about veterans. To accomplish this, faculty at LMU and K-12 teachers across Los Angeles have creatively used the resources and trainings provided by the DVLP to develop lesson plans and work with their classes to implement powerful educational opportunities. Since 2022, students have researched 9th and 10th Cavalries and 24th and 25th Infantry Buffalo Soldiers, as well as Chinese American and Japanese American World War II (WWII) veterans, who are all interred at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. The Digital Veteran’s legacy Project (DVLP) is funded by a grant from the Veterans Administration.
