Disability Support Services
Mission and Goals
Loyola Marymount's Disability Support Service (DSS) Office provides specialized assistance and resources that enable students with physical, psychological, learning disabilities, and ADD/ADHD to achieve maximum independence while they pursue their educational goals. Services are offered to students who have established disabilities under federal and state law. The DSS Office is designed to help students who have average or above average potential for learning and who exhibit severe difficulties in at least one academic area.
The DSS Office also works to educate students, faculty and staff in the area of disabilities so as to eliminate physical and attitudinal barriers. The DSS Coordinator arranges for accommodations and services for students with special needs.
Introduction
The Disability Support Services (DSS) Office was created to provide accommodations for students with disabilities.
This website was designed to be a resource for prospective and current students, as well as faculty, staff, and administrators who are teaching or otherwise working with students with disabilities at Loyola Marymount University.
General Information
According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the term "individual with a disability" is defined with reference to impairments. The term applies to an individual who (1) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the individual's major life activities, (2) has a record of such an impairment, or (3) is regarded as having such an impairment.
Registration with the DSS Office is on a voluntary, self-identifying basis. However, services are only available after a student has presented certified, current documentation of the disability from a medical or educational specialist, this documentation has been reviewed and accepted as complete and the student has become registered with our office. All information and documentation are confidential.
