Spain Study Abroad (Spring 2020)
03.09.20
LMU’s study abroad partner in Madrid, Spain, Saint Louis University (SLU-Madrid), has announced that for a period of 15 days, class instruction will be via online/remote learning in order to comply with directives of regional Spanish authorities regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19).
SLU-Madrid has stated that this suspension of classes is a precautionary measure, and there is currently no case on campus. Classes will be meeting on Tuesday, March 10th to go over the logistics of the remote learning and to discuss support and services available to the student community.
LMU is currently evaluating these new conditions and is in conversation with SLU administration. As of this evening, the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has no current notices or travel restrictions in effect for Spain, and the SLU-Madrid study abroad program remains open.
Although the program remains open at this time, given the rapidly-evolving conditions, LMU encourages students in Madrid to consider making plans to return home and to consult with SLU-Madrid regarding the academic options available for the remainder of the semester. Immunity-compromised individuals may need to take into special consideration their own circumstances and needs.
A reminder to students that LMU’s iSOS travel assistance is available 24/7 for any emergencies abroad by calling +1 215-942-8478. For any health concerns, referral to medical care, mental health support, or travel-related emergencies, iSOS should be your first call for immediate assistance.
Please be aware of LMU travel restrictions based on CDC guidelines. Students who are returning from programs abroad or who may have visited impacted areas during their travels abroad should self-quarantine for 14 days, as recommended by the CDC, and are restricted from visiting the LMU campus until the minimum 14 days have passed with no symptoms. In the event that any symptoms are noticed, call your health care provider immediately.
Updates will be communicated as more information becomes available. Students with any questions may contact:
