Best-Selling Author Lisa See to Speak at LMU's Alumni Author Series

Lisa See AAFrom her grandfather to her mother, Lisa See ’79 comes from a family of writers and was introduced to the craft of writing at a very young age. Now, as an accomplished author of several New York Times bestsellers, See returns to Loyola Marymount University for the Alumni Authors series to talk about her experiences as a writer and at her alma mater.

"I hope the night will be a dialogue," See said. "I love where questions can take us. It becomes much more than about me, and everyone becomes a part of the conversation."

See commonly writes about relationships between family, lovers and one’s obligation to country. She also writes about the Chinese-American experience because she is part Chinese and grew up in a large Chinese-American family in Los Angeles. She said that there is more opportunity for bi-racial stories in L.A. to be told.

"Literature should reflect the world around us, and it doesn’t really reflect that yet," See said. "There aren’t enough of these stories being told, and it’s going to take a while for them to get out there."

See is also the author of "Dreams of Joy," (2011), "Shanghai Girls," (2009) and On Golden Mountain" (1995). "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" was also made into a film.

See will speak on Wednesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. in the Von der Ahe Family Suite in the library. To RSVP, click here.
