Placement Exams & Tutorials

Placement Exams

Placement exams are available in Math, Spanish, German, Mandarin and French. The purpose of these exams is to allow us to place you in the proper level of coursework at LMU. You should take the language placement exams if you have previously studied the language and intend to continue in college. If you will be starting a foreign language for the first time, no placement is required. The Math placement exam is 90 minutes long; the language exams are untimed and adaptive, meaning the length will vary depending on your responses, but should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Contact your advisor if you are unsure if you should take any placement exams (your advisor's name and contact information was provided in your acceptance letter).

You are taking these tests on the honor system, and they are timed. Using notes, textbooks, a calculator (on the Math test) or assistance from friends or parents may result in serious academic difficulty when you are placed in a course beyond your appropriate level.

Accessing your Tutorial

By now, you have probably already created your account for MyLMU, the LMU intranet. This is how you access MyPAW and MyAid, and how you would have completed the housing application process as well. Just click on MyLMU, located at the top right on the www.lmu.edu or go directly to MyLMU at http://my.lmu.edu, then login with your username and password.

If you have never visited MyLMU or have not yet created your account, here are the steps to do so:

At the MYLMU login page, click on Reset Your Password. (Resetting your password requires the last four digits of your social security number. If you do not have a social security number, or if you try your social security number and it is not recognized (perhaps because you opted not to supply it to us when you applied), try the last four numbers of your LMU ID number instead. Your LMU ID number can be found in your acceptance letter.

To access the tutorials please go to http://my.lmu.edu and log in using your LMU username and password. When you have successfully logged in, click on System Logins, and then click MYLMU Connect. Once you enter MYLMU Connect, you will see the link for “Orientation and Registration Tutorial Fall 2011.” Click this link to begin the tutorial.
