    The Learning Community

    Empowerment, Commitment, Achievement

The TLC@LMU Program is an integrated and comprehensive approach to making students' college transition and first academic year a positive, empowering, healthy and productive experience. The program is a forward-thinking, participatory, and proactive approach to freshmen retention among the African American Community at Loyola Marymount University. TLC@LMU gives its participants opportunity to build strong academic habits, utilize the resources offered at LMU, and begin a strong social network for their future in Los Angeles. The program is a unique learning community that includes current students, faculty, university administrators, staff, alumni and parents.

The TLC@LMU Program consists of two primary elements:

Over the Summer... You will spend three  weeks on campus, prior to the start of school. This will help you become familiar with the campus and its resources, which gives you a leg up on the rest of your class. You will also experience a realistic look at college life and get out into the Los Angeles area for "cultural capital" building exercises, community service projects and much more.

During the first year, fall and spring...
You will take a year-long course in the fall about LMU, develop a personal leadership profile, attend a leadership retreat with past TLC@LMU classes. Being a member of TLC@LMU and taking the TLC Leadership Course participants receive individualized attention and advisement, get invited to special engagements and are provided with numerous academic and social opportunities.
