OBSS

Office of Black Student Services

Since 1969, we have strived to enhance lifestyles that reflect a balance of spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual health. We are committed to students from orientation through graduation, providing a co-curriculum of programming that parallels students' needs. We embrace the collaboration between student and academic affairs and together we uphold and support the full campus experience.

OBSS Goals:

  • Strengthen the interaction and communication between students, student organizations, faculty and staff.
  • Promote education and community involvement through cultural programs and events.
  • Serve as an advocate, resource and foundation for the black population of LMU.

Additionally, as a contribution to increasing LMU’s freshman retention, OBSS developed “Frosh Conversations: Girl Talk”. Frosh Conversations, in its 3rd year, is an initiative for African American female students in their first year at LMU. Its focus is to have challenging dialogues on topics selected by the students for the students. The program serves as a catalyst that allows for sharing and listening about everyday life issues pertaining to matters directly related to their needs.
