Postdoctoral Training

Program

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) announces the availability of fellowships for 2012-2013. This 9 month, two week Fellowship is designed to meet California’s licensure requirements of 1500 hours. The primary goal of this Fellowship is the refinement of applied professional skills through supervised practice, modeling, seminars, assigned readings, collegial interaction in a diverse and respectful university environment. Outreach and collaboration with other departments is also a vital part of this program.

Professional Activities

Individual counseling and psychotherapy, couples psychotherapy, group counseling and psychotherapy, crisis assessment and intervention, consultation and outreach.

Position Information

  • Two 9 month + two week positions (42 hours/week = 1500 hours) – competitive salary ($28,500) and full benefits (e.g., health, dental, vision coverage)
  • The position starts mid-August 2012 through mid-May 2013.
  • The training will include individual and group supervision, training seminars and other professional development opportunities.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ph.D. or PsyD in psychology from an APA approved doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology
  • Prior experience at a University Counseling Center is desired but not required
  • Demonstrated competency providing mental health and psychological services to students
  • Brief therapy experience
  • Group counseling and psychotherapy experience
  • Crisis Assessment and Intervention experience
  • Outreach and consultation experience
  • Strong demonstrated interest in diversity

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) Description

LMU is embedded in the Jesuit and Marymount Tradition of academic excellence and education of the whole person. Located in West Los Angeles on a bluff overlooking Marina del Rey, the campus is in a quiet residential area and has open space and panoramic views. The Law School is located in downtown Los Angeles. Loyola Marymount has an enrollment of approximately 5700 undergraduate students, 1900 graduate students and 1300 law students. In fall 2009, our undergraduate student population consisted of students identified as 56% Caucasian, 19% Latino, 13% Asian/Pacific, 8% African American, 1% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 3% declined to state, and 3% Non-Resident Alien. Approximately 250 international students attend the university, from countries such as Indonesia, Mexico, the Philippines, Canada, India, and South Korea.
