Class Motto Competition

Since the 2004-2005 Academic Year, each entering class at Loyola Marymount University has been welcomed with a class motto during Orientation on their class t-shirt.  Each motto is meant to inspire the incoming freshmen to find both direction and motivation throughout the duration of their college career.  The class motto is selected specifically for the incoming class among many submissions from the current first-year class.  In this tradition, students are being initiated into the Lion family in spirit and pride.

The class motto becomes unites each class in various ways.  The motto sets the framework for their First Year Academic Convocation and is then the theme at Commencement four years later.  In addition, the class motto is visible across campus being displayed on monitors across campus, on posters in offices and rooms around LMU, and proudly worn on t-shirts by students. Now is your chance to be a part of this LMU tradition and leave your legacy.

Current students can submit class motto suggestions to First Year Experience by emailing fye@lmu.edu.  Please make sure to include the quote, author, your name and email. We ask the student or students who submit the selected quote to share with the incoming class why they chose the quote and the impact they hope it will have on their time here at LMU. The submission deadline is Friday, February 17th.
