Building Bridges for Others

Building Bridges Photo2

Building Bridges for Others is a program that Career Development Services hosts, in partnership with the LMU Family of Schools, that brings together various elements of the LMU community through the efforts of the volunteers and staff who are examples of “a community for others.” LMU volunteers visit our local high school, Westchester High School, and spend a day discussing with high school students their resumes, career building strategies, college resources and opportunities available to them in the future. This program re-emphasizes the University’s commitment to service above self and education of the whole person.

This program is held once a semester. Volunteers can choose to volunteer all day, in the morning session or afternoon session. For more information regarding ways for you to volunteer for this rewarding program contact Nicole Rodriguez in Career Development Services at 310.338.2871 or nicole.rodriguez@lmu.edu.

Building Bridges for Others is a program that actually executes its purpose. The information being given to these students is going to be groundbreaking in assisting these kids with acquiring real life skills that will help them when they graduate and give them the desire and the encouragement that they are successful human beings. The message that really will stick with these kids after this program is that these students are our future and we care about them. It was great!

This is a great service LMU is doing for its community. I have a passion personally for preparing our youth for the workforce and this was a great avenue to help with this journey. Thank you for letting me be a part of it.

One of my students told me how he participated in the 'building bridges' program last year and that was the first time he had ever seen or written a resume. He then landed a job two weeks later at Chili's Restaurant where he actually used his resume and it really did help him secure the position! He now has been working there for over a year, and even received an award for being so friendly and nice to the customers. He was so proud of his job, you could see the confidence pouring out of him. It was amazing to see how much this program helped him. I'm grateful he shared his story with me, because we don't always get to see firsthand how our dedication and programs impact the lives of those we are serving. This is a living testament of how significant the "Building Bridges for Others" program really is. It's encouraging to witness how today's youth have or can be inspired by our outreach efforts.
