Lions hang with Ellen in 2011

For a third consecutive year, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has extended an invitation to LMU students to participate in its internship program. The show continues to prove itself a leader in the daytime talk show genre by blending genuine warmth, humor, and unparalleled celebrity interviews.  The show’s success is reflected by the fact that it has earned 31 Daytime Emmy awards since its inception in 2003.

Applications for the 2011- 2012 program were sent out this Summer to LMU students by Jillian Irvin, the Internship Coordinator for the show.  Each student selected to intern for the show will have a chance to work with the production staff performing various duties such as: researching topics for upcoming shows, coordinating game contestants and prizes, assisting production staff, and greeting and seating guest for show time taping.

Four LMU students participated in this program last year. Matthew Barrera, a graduating senior majoring in Screenwriting, Michael Kinney a Film and Television Production graduate student, Michael Flores, a junior majoring in Screenwriting and Alexandra Graboski, a graduating senior majoring in Theatre, were all selected to intern with “The Ellen Show”. Intern Matthew Barrera commented, “His time and experience with The Ellen Show allowed him to position himself for more opportunities in the industry.” He also stated, “I think that I have a good shot at becoming a full-time production assistant now because they know who I am and what a hard worker I’ve been. That’s something that I wouldn’t have been able to do without the internship.”
