How the Institute Works


The LMU Leadership Institute consists of 3 easy steps.  Completion of all 3 steps/components will earn participants special recognition at the end of the academic year.

Step 1: CURRICULAR EXPERIENCE
Complete 1 of our one-unit courses offered fall semester 2009 or Spring 2010.

  • EDLA 489: Leadership Seminar I – Individual Values of Leadership
    Through this course you will come to understand the concept of the Individual Values of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development: Consciousness of Self, Congruence, and Commitment. 
  • EDLA 490: Leadership Seminar II – Group Values of Leadership
    Through this course you will come to understand the concept of the Group Values of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development: Collaboration, Common Purpose, and Controversy with Civility.
  • EDLA 491: Leadership Seminar III – Community Values of Leadership
    Through this course you will come to understand the concept of the Community Values of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development: Citizenship and the overall creation of Social Change.

All courses are open to all students and you can register through PROWL.

Step 2: CO-CURRICULAR EXPERIENCE
Attend three leadership events/workshops during the academic year. Schedule of events/workshops will be available at the beginning of each semester.

Step 3: CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE
Participate in an out of class activity designed by you, in consultation with Student Leadership & Development or your Instructor, and then write a reflection paper on the Social Change Model and your experience.  The experience and paper must be completed by April 2010.

Participation in the Institute can begin at any point during the academic year.
