Student Worker Program

The Student Worker Program is an organization that is unique to Loyola Marymount University. Compensation
Student Workers earn $13.00 per hour. The average Student Worker, working the required 18 hours a week during school and 40 hours a week during summer, will earn approximately $15,500 a year towards his or her tuition.

Housing
All Student Workers live together in the Leavey 6 Apartments on campus. Housing is guaranteed throughout a student Workers tenure and is free during summer months. The selection of apartments is based on seniority, while the selection of roommates is left up to each individual student.

Events & Socials
Throughout the year the Student Workers host various dinners, socials and events. These activities are planned by the social committee, and the Executive body. Two traditional events include the Worker Retreat at the conclusion of Fall term and the Spring Formal.

Requirements
The Student Worker Program requires that all of its members are capable of performing a certain level of manual labor. The average crew job and specific job placements such as Recycling, Burns Recreation and Trouble shooting are very physically demanding. Upon hiring, all new workers undergo a training program that covers the proper and safest lifting techniques as well as other general safety practices. All workers should be able to lift 50 pounds with relative ease to perform the duties the Student Worker Program requires.

Crew Jobs
In addition to their regular job placements, all Student Workers are required to take part in crew jobs that primarily involve labor. These jobs coincide with large, campus-wide events and require all members of the crew work. There is an average of six crew jobs a year; the largest being graduation.

Volunteer Jobs
In addition to crew jobs there are a number of smaller volunteer jobs that arise throughout the year. Although there is no requirement for crew members to work these jobs they do provide an excellent opportunity to work more hours and earn extra money towards tuition. All workers are expected to volunteer from time to time.
