Welcome to the Loyola Marymount University Department of Public Safety (DPS)!

Public Safety's mission is to create a safe and secure environment for all members of the LMU community, including students, faculty, staff, and guests.

In addition to the Chief, the department employs an Assistant Chief, three Captains, six Lieutenants, Parking Manager, one Investigator, a lead communication officer, and an office manager. The department also maintains a staff of several contract security officers who conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the campus, assist students, faculty, and staff with residence halls and offices accesses, man the Leavey Gate entrance, and other responsibilities as needed. In addition, LMU DPS employs several work study students who assist the department with routine office functions and serve as after-hours campus escorts.

All staff members are required to possess and maintain a license through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS), and current first aid / CPR certification. In addition to these basic requirements, several officers have completed the state 832 P.C. course (Laws of Arrest), are Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.), light search and rescue trained, and bring a wealth of experience from past assignments to their positions.
