PeaceJam
LMU was proud to host the PeaceJam Global Call to Action Conference, September 11-13, 2008. The conference brought nearly 3,000 youth, ages 14-25, from the United States and around the world to spend the weekend with seven Nobel Peace Prize Laureates: Desmond Tutu, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Jody Williams, Betty Williams, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Jose Ramos Horta, and Shirin Ebadi.
At the conference, the youth had an unprecedented opportunity to share with, learn from and be inspired by world leaders for peace. Participating youth created and implemented their own Global Call to Action Projects, becoming creative leaders who are committed to solving the most difficult problems facing our world. The goal of the conference is to mobilize the global community to complete one billion 'Global Call to Action' projects in the next ten years addressing issues such as racism and hate, environmental degradation, access to clean water, and the spread of global disease.
