The LMU Upward Bound Program is pleased to recognize Daniel Edah, Stephanie
Figueroa, Michael Jordan and Fred Manson who competed in the national
2009 TRIO Quest activities sponsored by the University of Washington.
These students won New Program Commendation medals for their web research
design entry entitled “Green Future”. The students, participants
of LMU’s Upward Bound Program, are all Westchester High School juniors.
As part of the 2009 Summer Residential Program held on LMU’s campus,
students participated for the first time in TRIO Quest, submitting two
group websites and three photo essays for competition. Website
design teams were supervised by UB Summer TA, Gregory Carr. Greg
is currently an LMU senior majoring in Studio Arts: Multimedia Design
and employed as a Program Assistant for UB.
With guidance from over 500
TRIO staff, approximately 2000 TRIO students participated in the 2009
TRIO Quest activities. TRIO programs submitted the following for national
judging: 100 educational web sites created by over 400 TRIO students,
400 Photo Essays, and over 90 Media Quest activities. Out of the 100
ThinkQuest TRIO sites, 11 sites (11%) made it to the final judges for
awards; from the 400 Photo Essays, 14 essays (3.5%) made it to the final
judges. And, 10 (11%) of the Media Quest submissions became finalists
in the competition.
