Recognizing that frequent faculty-student interactions are vital to a dynamic intellectual environment, Residence Life seeks to provide students with opportunities for informal student-faculty engagement outside of the classroom setting. Increased connection between faculty and students in meaningful informal interaction leads students to more effective decision-making, a deepening love of learning and an overall more satisfactory college experience. To this end, Residence Life sponsors two opportunities for student-faculty interaction, the Faculty in Residence and Faculty Fellows programs. Faculty members involved in these programs have the opportunity to:
- contribute to the development of a residential community,
- expand and vary student and faculty interaction,
- and provide students with an academic role model.
Faculty in ResidenceThe Faculty in Residence program maximizes the interaction between faculty and students outside of the classroom by having the faculty member live in community with the residents. Student life is enhanced by the collaboration of residence life staff and Faculty in Residence to incorporate academic life into the campus housing experience.
Faculty in Residence are expected to:
- Coordinate and collaborate with other faculty to plan programs in the residential communities.
- Initiate, develop, and support programs of an educational nature in the residential communities (minimum 3 per semester). This will include personally presenting appropriate programs, workshops and discussions.
- Attend and participate in other social and educational programs sponsored by the residence staff and RHA building councils and encourage student participation in such programs.
- Refer students to proper LMU resources.
More specific responsibilities are detailed in the position description available through Residence Life. This
position requires that the faculty member hold a tenured or tenure track appointment. The Faculty in Residence appointment is for one year with the possibility for renewal up to three years. Faculty in Residence are provided a one or two bedroom apartment in an on campus residence hall.

Faculty FellowsFaculty Fellows interact with students in a specific residence hall but do not live on campus. The Faculty Fellows work closely with the residence life staff to promote academic excellence by providing students with opportunities
outside of the classroom for intellectual growth and social learning experiences. Faculty Fellows must have a full time appointment and are expected to:
- Initiate, develop, and support programs of an educational nature in the residential communities (minimum 3 per semester). This will include personally presenting appropriate programs, workshops and discussions.
- Attend and participate in other social and educational programs sponsored by the residence staff and RHA building councils and encourage student participation in such programs.
- Spend a minimum of 4 hours per week in the residence hall engaging with students as a mentor, educator, and academic leader.
- Refer students to proper LMU resources.

How to apply:All applicants must submit a letter of interest, current CV and letters of endorsement from their college Dean and department chair. A committee will review the applications and conduct interviews with the candidates. Applications are being accepted until all positions are filled. The Chief Academic Officer will approve all appointments.
