Canceling Housing

When students apply to live on campus, they sign a license agreement which outlines all the terms and regulations for living on campus. If a student wishes to cancel their housing assignment or request any type of exception to the terms outlined in the license agreement, then they need to submit an Exception Request Form and a typed statement from the student clearly explaining their request. Also, students are encouraged to attach any supporting documentation that relates to their request. Requests will not be accepted without a typed explanation from the student and his or her signature on the Exception Request Form. All request to cancel your housing, must be within the General Criteria for Cancellation and/or Refund Exception. These criteria are listed on the Exception Request Form and are as follows:

Each appeal is reviewed on an individual basis. Unique circumstances may exist and the paperwork provided by the student should support the student’s claim.

Students must show that they are facing extraordinary circumstances beyond his/her control which were not present when the agreement was signed and whose situation cannot be accommodated within the housing system.

Students and/or the student’s financial providers must show that they are facing a sudden and unexpected change in financial circumstances that are beyond their control.

It is possible that students may request to cancel for an approved reason. These reasons include: leave of absence, withdrawal, graduation, study abroad, judicial and transfer. These students still must complete an exception request form, but do not need to include a typed statement. Once their reason for leaving is verified with the correct on-campus department, then they will be able to cancel.

All requests are reviewed by the Student Housing Appeals Board and a written response is usually sent to the student within seven business days. During the academic year, students are given the option to meet with the Student Housing Appeals Board. Decisions issued by the Student Housing Appeals Board are final.
