Office of Black Student Services

In keeping in line with the mission of Ethnic & Intercultural Services, The Office of Black Student Services (OBSS) strives to enhance lifestyles that reflect a balance of spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual health.  OBSS is committed to students, from orientation through graduation, as they individually and collectively liberate their minds and hearts to develop their God-given abilities, embracing their culture through the promotion of community involvement and development.

Our Goals:

  • Strengthen the interaction and communication between students, student organizations, faculty and staff.
  • Promote education and community involvement through cultural programs and events.
  • Serve as an advocate, resource and foundation for the black population of Loyola Marymount University.

The Office of Black Student Services encourages the overall success and personal development of African-American students at LMU.  OBSS programs include an annual Jazz and Open Mic Poetry Night, Black Culture Night, Imani Faith Retreat, Black History Month activities, Christmas and Kwanzaa on the Hill and the Kente Graduation.  OBSS also works closely with the Department of African-American studies.
