Student Clubs

 

Latino Leadership Roundtable
Collectively, these leadership clubs are represented by their Presidents and Vice Presidents to create unity by inviting guest speakers, furthermore creating dialogue about issues that concern the Latino/a community. In addition, representatives create opportunities to work together on scholarship fundraising efforts, and programs that will strengthen efforts for the community. clss@lmu.edu

Latino Business Student Association
LBSA educates and stimulates the student to develop awareness in all aspects of business and related careers. This is accomplished through personal contact with key representatives from major companies. Internship placement and development of resume writing skills through information sessions.

Latin Dance Group
The LMU Latin Dance Group is an open environment in which any student, undergraduate or graduate, can learn the skills of the dances of Latin America, such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, Tango, and a variety of other Popular Latin Dances. The Latin Dance Group allows students to interact with other members who love to dance and allows for the opportunity to learn more about Latin American Culture. It is open to students of all skill levels and knowledge of Latin dances and no partner is required.

Ballet Folklorico de LMU
At over 35 years old, Grupo Folklorico is one of the oldest organizations on campus! Grupo is composed of current LMU students as well as LMU alumni who practice weekly and perform at LMU and at off-campus events. Ballet Folklorico is a traditional Mexican dance performed with a mariachi. Grupo Folklorico performs throughout the school year at various events. clss@lmu.edu

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA)
MEChA's purpose is to increase social, cultural, political, and educational awareness among the Latino students at LMU and the community. Some events include a mentorship program with Lennox Middle School, Dia de la Familia, and Westside Café.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
SHPE's purpose is to promote careers in Science and Engineering in the Latino community. Members recruit junior and high school level Latino students, retain LMU Science and Engineering students and assists in the development of communication skills through workshops.

Spanish Club
The Spanish Club organizes different cultural activities related to the Latino/Hispanic world (i.e. movie nights, poetry readings, Día de los Muertos celebration) throughout the academic year. La Voz:
Undergraduate journal published by the Spanish club. It includes research papers, creative writing (i.e. short stories, poetry) and artistic work. lmuspanishclub@yahoo.com

Underwings Praxis Organization
The mission of the Underwings Praxis Organization is to promote justice oriented education for students at Loyola Marymount University through a process of immersion and accompaniment with members of the community of Boyle Heights. The Underwings Praxis Organization acts as a bridge between LMU and Boyle Heights as it seeks to create an atmosphere of solidarity between the two communities. nderwingspraxis@yahoo.com

Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity, Inc.
Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity is a social fraternity that was founded in 1986 at the University of Iowa. It is based on cultural understanding and wisdom. They believe in the principles of fairness, opportunity, and in the equality of all men no matter what their race, culture or ethnicity. Our biggest goal is to see that all of society can realize the importance of these three principles. In order to achieve this goal they all strive to model these behaviors and present themselves in a gentlemanly and educated fashion.

Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc.
Sigma Lambda Gamma is a sisterhood of women who have chosen this affiliation as a manner to achieve personal development and awareness to the responsibility of community involvement for the betterment of our local, regional, national and global communities. Today, Sigma Lambda Gamma is the largest, historically Latina-based national sorority with a multicultural membership in chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States.

Partners:

Amnesty International
Focuses on children's and refugee rights, prisoners of consciousness, petition and letter writing; and often collaborate with other clubs and orgs on campus.

El Espejo
This club serves to educate, mentor, and establish a bond with inner city youth in order to promote a better understanding of the possibilities of personal and intellectual growth. It provides leadership, support advice and awareness on crucial issues facing the Latino community.

Students for Labor and Economic Justice (SLEJ)
This group of students create awareness about the disparities that exist within the labor groups and unions in Los Angeles and LMU.
