Transportation

Golf CartIn an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation, LMU is continually upgrading its fleet of vehicles with electric-powered models. Students and faculty traversing the campus on golf and electric carts is as frequent a sight as the palm trees that dot our landscape. Several GM Gems are also in service, and even two Segways. Landscaping crews primarily use all-electric John Deere Gators and GM Gems.

LMU also operates The Lion Express, a free shuttle service offered to LMU students. The shuttles operates like a bus system running a set schedule to popular student destinations. The Lion Express also provides an advanced reservation-only service to and from LAX.

Currently, the Associated Students of Loyola Marymount University (ASLMU) is working out the details of a free bike program to provide bicycles around campus for students to use.

Several bus routes run adjacent to the campus, and students are encouraged to take advantage of public transportation.

The issue of transportation offers tremendous potential for the university to further reduce its carbon footprint by eliminating harmful emissions from vehicles. The Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Committee is currently working closely with campus staff on a number of programs aimed at reducing vehicular traffic, such as carpooling, subsidized bus passes and a shuttle to the closest Metro station. LMU is sensitive to the concerns of its neighbors and the needs of students, faculty and staff, and is committed to providing logistically sound solutions.
