State Government Relations represents LMU to the California government and agencies to build relationships with assembly members, senators and other officials. State relations works closely with the
Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU).

State Relations News
The Governor's Budget for 2007-2008 proposes an increase of $61.3 million over the revised 2006-07 level for anticipated growth in the Cal Grant Program, reflecting increased participation and the anticipated undergraduate fee increases of 7% and 10% at UC and CSU respectively. The maximum award for students in the independent sector will remain constant at $9,708!

Notable Alums and Friends of the University
Majority Leader Karen Bass, LMU Parent, has successfully battled to pass legislation for foster care reform and health insurance coverage for families. She is the first African American and the first woman to hold the leadership role as Majority Floor Leader for the California State Assembly.
Secratary Ross Miller '02, earned dual advanced degrees in Law and a Masters in Business Administration at LMU. He was voted the new Secretary of State of Nevada. As son of two-term governor and former District Attorney Bob Miller, public service and giving back to his community have always been part of his life.
California State Senator Tom Harman JD '68, a member of the Republican Party, was first elected to the State Assembly in November 2000, following six years of service as a Huntington Beach City Councilman. Senator Harman resprests the 35th district.
Former California State Senator Kevin Murray MBA '83, JD '87, served as Appropriations Chair until he was termed out in 2006. He is currently working as an entertainment lawyer.
President Pro Tem David Roberti '61, served in the California Legislature from 1967 to 1994. In 1996 he donated the David Roberti Papers to Loyola Marymount University. These papers document the years David A. Roberti spent as California State Assemblymember for the 48th District (1967-71) and as California State Senator (1971-94). This includes his years as President Pro Tem of the Senate (1980-1994). The Roberti Papers consist of manuscripts, photographs, clippings, and printed material and come from Senator Roberti's Sacramento and district offices.
Governor Benjamin Cayetano, LMU Parent, served as the Governor of Hawaii from 1994-2002.
Governor Robert Miller JD '71, was the Governor of the State of Nevada from 1989-1999.
California State Senator Robert G. Beverly JD '51, represented the 29th district from 1980-1996 and was termed out. Beverly began his political career in 1958 when he was elected to the city council of Manhattan Beach, where he served for nine years, including three terms as mayor. He also served as city attorney and was on the city's planning commission and zoning board, as well as being active in the League of California Cities. The Robert Beverly papers are held here at LMU.
