Leading Academic Departments and Programs supports Department Chairs and Program Directors at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). The program provides opportunities for Department Chairs and Program Directors to acquire knowledge and build the essential leadership skills necessary for leading effective academic units and programs. Through participation in interactive workshops conducted by internal and external scholars and opportunities to interact with and learn from Deans, Administrators, and other colleagues who can support their leadership role, participants reflect on and evaluate their role as a Department Chair or Program Director. The components of the Program include:
- Interactive Leadership Development Workshops
- Literature on Higher Education Administration, Case Studies, Group Discussions, Role Play Exercises, Videos on Leadership Issues, and Problem Solving Exercises
- Presentations by External and Internal Scholars
- Interaction with and Learning from Department Chairs, Directors, Deans, and Administrators
- A Robust University-Wide Peer Network
The Department Chairs and Program Directors Collaborative is an informal, supportive and collegial network of Chairs and Directors who gather during lunch to enhance their leadership skills by acquiring institutional specific knowledge from Colleagues, sharing best practices, and creating university-wide linkages.
