The university is proud to invite all full, part-time and retired tenure or tenure-track faculty to march in the inauguration procession. Classes will be canceled on Tuesday, March 8 from 11:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Please encourage your students to attend the day’s activities.

An Inauguration Mass will be held in Sacred Heart Chapel at 12:00 p.m. with a community luncheon immediately following in Sunken Garden.

Regalia Information

Faculty will march wearing the academic regalia representing the highest academic degree earned.  You will be responsible for providing your own regalia.  Please refer to the Chief Academic Officer’s January memo for more details on the inauguration or academic regalia. 

If you do not own regalia, you may rent it from the Follett LMU bookstore prior to February 1.  The LMU bookstore has agreed to a special two-month rental covering the inauguration and commencement dates.  If you rent regalia, you are responsible for keeping and storing your regalia until commencement.  Please contact Nina Bangle in the LMU bookstore at to order by February 1.


In preparation for the academic procession all Trustees and Regents will assemble at Fritz B. Burns Recreation Center (adjacent to Albert Gersten Pavilion) on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 8 beginning at 2:30 p.m.  You will receive lineup instructions there.  Your guests may begin seating in Albert Gersten Pavilion at 2:30 p.m. 


The academic procession will begin at 3:15 p.m. and lead into the installation ceremony. All faculty will process from Fritz B. Burns Recreation Center into Albert Gersten Pavilion. Each group of delegates will have at least one marshal who will lead you to the appropriate seat.

Installation Ceremony

The installation ceremony will begin immediately following the procession.  It is at this ceremony that David W. Burcham will be formally installed as the 15th president of the university.  Guests may be seated after 2:30 p.m.  The ceremony will end at approximately 4:45 p.m., at which time the academic flags, platform party and international flags will begin the inauguration recession.


At 4:45 p.m., following the inauguration recession, all guests are invited to attend a celebratory reception held on Alumni Mall.  Faculty may choose to return to Fritz B. Burns Recreation Center and remove their academic regalia for check-in during the reception AND claim their personal items if any.  Please note, personal items not claimed by 6:30 p.m.  can be retrieved from Public Safety’s lost and found by calling 310-338-2893.
