What is Learning for? Using the Threshold Concepts Framework to Examine Student Reflection on the Process and Value of Learning
Ciccone, Tony, French, CIPD, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
In this workshop, we will examine how metacognitive strategies such as reflection can help us understand how students perceive the process of learning and how they may come to ascribe purpose and value to it. The Threshold Concepts framework will serve as an organizing principle for describing this learning trajectory. Participants will be asked to reflect on their current strategies for eliciting this information, suggest other possibilities, and examine ways to make sense of the “stories” they gather.
