University Core Requirements

Beginning Fall 2013, LMU will introduce a new set of University Core requirements.  Transfer students who begin their studies at LMU before Fall 2015 may continue to take the courses for the former University Core pattern listed below to fulfill the new Core pattern.  As of Fall 2015 all transfer students will be required to take courses offered by their College that have been designated to fulfill the new Core requirements.  Information regarding these courses for the new Core will be posted soon.

American Cultures Studies (3 semester hours)
Saddleback College students may choose one of the following courses:

ES 1, 2
ENG 24
HIST 20, 21
SOC 20
WS 21

College Writing (3 semester hours)
Saddleback College students take the following course:

ENG 1A, 1AH

Communication or Critical Thinking (3 semester hours)
Saddleback College students choose one of the following courses:

PHIL 12
SP 3, 5

Creative Arts (3 semester hours)
Saddleback College students choose one of the following courses:

DANC 9
TA 1

History (3 semester hours)
Saddleback College students fulfill this requirement at LMU.

Literature (3 semester hours)
Saddleback College students choose one of the following courses:

ENG 21A, 21B, 25, 27A
TA 25, 26

Mathematics, Science and Technology (18 semester hours)
This requirement is met by the curriculum of the major in the College of Science and Engineering.

Philosophy (6 semester units)
Students are required to take PHIL 160: Philosophy of Human Nature at LMU and 3 semester hours of upper division philosophy to fulfill the core requirement.  College students fulfill the lower division (PHIL 160) requirement at LMU.

Social Sciences (6 semester hours)
This requirement is met by the curriculum of the major.

Theological Studies (6 semester hours)

Students are required to take one 100-level theology course and one 300-level theology course.  Saddleback College students fulfill the lower division requirement by taking the following course:
