University Core Requirements


Beginning Fall 2013, LMU will introduce a new set of University Core requirements.  Transfer students who begin their studies at LMU before Fall 2015 may continue to take the courses for the former University Core pattern listed below to fulfill the new Core pattern.  As of Fall 2015 all transfer students will be required to take courses offered by their College that have been designated to fulfill the new Core requirements.  Information regarding these courses for the new Core will be posted soon.

Some majors may designate certain courses to fulfill specific University Core areas.  Please use this link to view those requirements that are specific to these majors. For assistance or questions about this program, please contact Admissions at admissions@lmu.edu.

American Cultures Studies (3 semester hours)

Mathematics, Science and Technology (18 semester hours)
This requirement is met by the curriculum of the major in the College of Science and Engineering.

Philosophy (6 semester hours)
Students are required to take PHIL 160: Philosophy of Human Nature at LMU and 3 semester hours of upper division philosophy to fulfill the core requirement.

Social Sciences (6 semester hours)
Pasadena City College students choose one of the three following options:

Option A: Select 2 courses from the following departments. Each course must be from a different department.

Theological Studies (6 semester hours)
Students are required to take one 100-level theology course and one 300-level theology course. Pasadena City College students fulfill the lower division requirement by taking the following course:

*Students majoring in the Bachelor of Science in Natural Science, Secondary Science Education in Biology or Chemistry may use this course to satisfy the U.S. Constitution requirement for the preliminary teaching credential.
