University Core Requirements


Beginning Fall 2013, LMU will introduce a new set of University Core requirements.  Transfer students who begin their studies at LMU before Fall 2015 may continue to take the courses for the former University Core pattern listed below to fulfill the new Core pattern.  As of Fall 2015 all transfer students will be required to take courses offered by their College that have been designated to fulfill the new Core requirements.  Information regarding these courses for the new Core will be posted soon.

American Cultures Studies (3 semester hours)
College of the Canyons students take one of the following courses:

College Writing (3 semester hours)
College of the Canyons students choose one of the following courses:

ENGL 101, 101H

Communication or Critical Thinking (3 semester hours)
College of the Canyons students choose one of the following courses:

COMS 105, 105H, 225, 246

Creative Arts (3 semester hours)
College of the Canyons students fulfill this requirement at LMU.

History (3 semester hours)
College of the Canyons students choose one of the following courses:

HIST 101, 101H, 102

Literature (3 semester hours)
College of the Canyons students choose one of the following courses:

ENGL 263, 264, 273, 274
SPAN 240
THEATR 220, 221

Mathematics, Science and Technology (6 semester hours)
This requirement is met by the curriculum of the major in the College of Science and Engineering.

Philosophy (6 semester hours)
Students are required to take PHIL 160: Philosophy of Human Nature at LMU and 3 semester hours of upper division philosophy to fulfill the core requirement. College of the Canyons students fulfill this requirement at LMU.

Social Sciences
This requirement is met by the curriculum of the major.

Theological Studies (6 semester hours)
Students are required to take one 100-level theology course and one 300-level theology course. College of the Canyons students fulfill the lower division requirement by taking the following course:
