Title: "Progressive Research Accelerates at LMU"

Header:
Physics Professor Jeff Sanny, Ph.D., is at the forefront of progressive research on magnetospheric physics and the effects of “killer electrons” here at LMU.  Since 1990, his research has been funded by institutions like the National Science Foundation and NASA, which are eager to resolve national security issues implicated by killer electrons.

During magnetic storms initiated by solar activity, common electrons in space are accelerated to mind-boggling speeds.  Given sufficient kinetic energy, these sub-atomic particles can damage satellites and spacecraft.

Professor Sanny’s intense research leads to a better understanding of the dynamics of killer electron activity and helps underpin future solutions to protect man-made objects in orbit.  His students, in turn, are given the opportunity to apply their scientific knowledge in this cutting-edge area of physics.
