Political Science Scholar Goes International

As the daughter of an alumna, senior Daniella Eslamboly admits she was initially influenced by her mother to attend LMU. However, she says she soon discovered firsthand what makes LMU so special.

“What attracted me most to LMU was the community. I loved the idea of actually getting to know fellow students and professors in a way that I would not have been able to at other universities,” Eslamboly says. “At LMU, I’m not just a number.”

By participating in extracurricular activities, the political science major and Spanish minor says she has been able to overcome shyness and sharpen her leadership skills. She has been president of the Mock Trial Team; vice president of the LMU Hillel; president of the Student Alumni Association; vice president of the LMU College Democrats; and an executive board member of the Political Science Association. She recently earned the Alfred J. Kilp, S.J. Scholarship, which is awarded to deserving descendants of LMU alumni.

“I am grateful to all of the donors. A scholarship means less time worrying about loans and more time to focus on my studies,” she explains.

Last year, Eslamboly earned the Hansard Fellowship from LMU’s Institute for Leadership Studies. The fellowship allowed her to study at the London School of Economics and Political Science and intern with a member of Parliament for a semester.

“Before, I hated international politics, but the experience made things more real to me,” Eslamboly says. “I was planning to become a district attorney, but now I’m expanding my options to the whole international realm.”

When Eslamboly graduates in May, she plans to study international law and someday practice abroad --
perhaps in Spain, where she could use her Spanish minor. Regardless of where she chooses to go, Eslamboly says she is excited about continuing to be a part of the LMU family.

“The fact that people can give back inspires me to give; I love my school,” she says. “I don’t want tuition to be a reason for anyone not to come to LMU.”
