Admissions

Applications:
PLACE Corps applications are made available every November and are always due by January 31st.  Each new cohort begins their two-year commitment at the end of June.  To receive an application, please contact the PLACE Corps Office.

Observation Hours:
California state law requires that all who are admitted into a teacher preparation program have documentation of completing twenty hours of “observation” of children as a prerequisite.  Because PLACErs teach in Catholic schools and the state credential is for all California schools, each PLACEr ultimately needs to log sixty hours (minimally) in a public school setting.  Depending on the setting, the initial twenty prerequisite hours may be applicable to the overall sixty hours.  Verification of the initial twenty observation hours must be on official letterhead of the institution, and included in the letter must be the candidate’s full name, observation dates with hours listed, age group of children observed, and hours total for that institution.  Time is allotted in the PLACEr’s first summer academic program for observation hours.

Interviews:
All applicants accepted into the PLACE Corps will have been interviewed by a panel from the LMU PLACE Corps Selection Committee. It may not be possible to offer an interview to all of those who apply for the PLACE Corps, but an applicant should double-check that his/her contact information on the application is complete and accurate so that proper notification can be assured. Notification of interview status is generally given to candidates by early to mid February. Interviews are scheduled at Loyola Marymount University in late February to early March.  Out-of-state interviews may be conducted in Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, and Seattle depending on number of applicants being interviewed from these areas.
