Faculty Learning Communities

Global Learning as Inclusive Excellence

Grounded in LMU’s commitment to inclusive excellence and equitable access to global education for all, this faculty learning community will focus on equipping faculty with a global-local learning toolkit for the classroom (whether at LMU, in Los Angeles, or beyond the bluff), and exposing them to the wide variety of global-local engagement opportunities for students and faculty. Faculty will become familiar with the elements of successful global-local learning and gain a critical understanding of its contribution to inclusive excellence.

Fostering a Justice-Oriented Classroom Culture

This faculty learning community (FLC) will focus on building a restorative, antiracist culture in the classroom and beyond. Faculty will explore pedagogical and curricular strategies to foster open, reciprocal communication with and among students, which will serve as a foundation for productive engagement with conflict when it arises. Faculty will gain confidence and skills in modeling a commitment to justice and equity as a pathway toward ensuring that all students experience a sense of belonging in their classrooms and at LMU, more broadly.

Student Athletics

This learning community will focus on a specific population of students, The LMU student-athlete. In this community, we will take a deep dive into the student-athlete experience. We will examine the intersectionality’s of this student population and ways we can best support, understand and cultivate the universities mission of educating the whole person, as they prepare to go out and set the world on fire.
