Rosenia St. Onge

Message from the President
July 6, 2017

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share with you that Rosenia St. Onge, university registrar emerita, died on July 2, 2017. She was 73 years old.

Ms. St. Onge’s monumental career at LMU spanned five decades. Since joining our community on May 12, 1961, she worked in many capacities in the Office of the Registrar, first at Loyola University as a clerk, executive assistant, and office supervisor, and subsequently at LMU as assistant registrar and acting registrar. On June 1, 1980, Ms. St. Onge was promoted to university registrar, where she served until her retirement on May 15, 2012.

Ms. St. Onge was a pillar of our LMU community whose generous spirit continues to benefit our campus. She propelled the modernization of student records and helped establish policies and procedures for the Graduation and Retention Committee, the Computer Steering Committee, the Graduate Council, and the Commencement Committee. Ms. St. Onge led and oversaw university commencement ceremonies for decades—one of the most significant and memorable experiences for generations of graduating students.

Ms. St. Onge was active in the Pacific and American Associations of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. She was a founding member, three-time president, and three-time vice president of the Conference of Registrars in Jesuit Institutions. Her best-practices expertise and integrity in maintaining records as well as her encyclopedic knowledge and professional engagement made Ms. St. Onge a cherished mentor to new registrars across the country.

In 2012, LMU bestowed Ms. St. Onge with the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, for her devotion to and support of Catholic higher education.

Funeral arrangements will be announced when they become available. Donations may be made to the Rosenia St. Onge Scholarship, care of Alma Vorst, 1 LMU Drive, Suite 2800, Los Angeles, CA 90045. Notes of condolence may be sent to: Mrs. Pat Ranftl, 1 LMU Drive, Suite 1863, Los Angeles, CA 90045 or to pranftl@lmu.edu.

Please keep Rosenia, her family, including Pat Ranftl, her sister and our colleague from LMU Extension, and her many friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
