Paul Locatelli, S.J.

Message from the President

July 12, 2010

Dear LMU Community,

I am saddened to share with you the news that Paul Locatelli, S.J., a distinguished Jesuit educator and former president of Santa Clara University, died this morning in Los Gatos, Calif., of complications resulting from pancreatic cancer. Father Locatelli was 71.

Father Locatelli most recently served as secretary for higher education for the Society of Jesus in Rome and Santa Clara’s chancellor. He was president of Santa Clara from 1988 to 2008. As secretary, he organized a major international gathering last April of Jesuit higher education leaders in Mexico City.

From 1986 to 1988, Father Locatelli was rector of the Loyola Marymount Jesuit Community and served on the LMU Board of Trustees.

Funeral arrangements in Santa Clara are pending. May he rest in peace.

Sincerely,

David W. Burcham
Interim President
