Lawrence Jelinek

Dear LMU Community: 

I am saddened to share with you that Lawrence J. Jelinek, retired professor of history, died on Feb. 17, 2017. He was 74 years old.

During his 30 years at LMU, Professor Jelinek was a U.S. historian with an interest in California history. He was a member of the editorial board for the California Historical Society’s journal, California History, and the author of “Harvest Empire: A History of California Agriculture.” He taught courses in U.S. and Western history.

Professor Jelinek joined the history faculty at LMU in 1977. He was promoted to associate professor in 1984 and to professor in 1989. He earned his Ph.D. in history at UCLA in 1976 and his B.A. at the University of Illinois in 1964. He retired from LMU in 2007.

A memorial service for Professor Jelinek will be held at 10 a.m. on March 4, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 400 W. Duarte Rd., Arcadia, CA 91007.
