Staff at the Los Angeles Loyolan and The Tower yearbook have another accomplishment to brag about: both publications were recently honored with the prestigious Pacemaker Award.
The awards, distributed annually to the best in college publishing, were announced at the National College Media Conference, held this year in New Orleans Oct. 23-27.
With the two awards, LMU became the only university in the nation to have both its campus newspaper and yearbook come home with a Pacemaker Award in the same year.
In addition to the overall category, the Loyolan placed second in Best Ad/Editorial Supplement for its Basketball Preview issue, and fifth for Story of the Year, Editorial/Opinion. The Tower’s former design director, Gretchen Helpenstell ’13, was honored for yearbook design of the year.
The Pacemaker Awards have been given out annually by the Associated Collegiate Press since 1927. The Loyolan previously won the award in 2007 and 2011.
