The 10th annual Urban Issues Lecture Series presented by the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University will examine the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots and look ahead to the 2013 mayoral election. The eight-week lecture series brings together top government officials, community leaders, LMU students and the public to discuss issues facing Los Angeles and to motivate civic action.

The series runs Tuesdays from Feb. 7 to April 10 at 5 - 7 p.m. All lectures are open to the public.

The theme of this year’s series is: "20 Years After the Riots: Where Is L.A. Now?" The center has invited several of the declared candidates for mayor of L.A. in 2013 as well as other political leaders to discuss the riots and its impact on the city, and the city in general.

 The center has conducted surveys of Angelenos measuring their outlook on the city on the 5th, 10th and 15th anniversaries of the riots. For the 20th anniversary, another survey will be conducted during the spring of 2012. The data will be presented during the lecture series and will be used by students in their academic research.
