Andrew Stephen Lee, senior film and television production major, won the top prize in the 26th annual juried student art show at the Laband Art Gallery at Loyola Marymount University. Lee, who is also a studio arts minor, entered a digital print titled “The Jungle.” The jurors’ awards were announced Thursday, April 29, 2010.
More than 150 pieces were submitted by 65 studio arts students. The works were reviewed by this year’s judges, independent curator Claudia Bohn-Spector and artist/musician Sam Mellon. The submissions included paintings, photographs and mixed-media sculptures. “This exhibition offers the student artists an opportunity to have their work professionally assessed and to present it to an audience,” said Barbara Busse, dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
Bohn-Spector and Mellon selected the works for exhibition and created the layout of the exhibit, as well. They highlighted common themes in their juxtapositions of groups of works throughout the gallery. “What is presented here is a welcomed signal of what is to come from this next generation,” they said in their introduction to the show.
The selections for the juried student show will be on display until May 8 at the Laband Gallery.
