Loyola Marymount University senior Kevin Harter said he is reminded every day of how grateful he is to be a recipient of the Stephen F. and Judy K. Page Scholar at the College of Business Administration.
“Receiving the Page Scholarship has been the greatest gift I could ever ask for. It has relieved me of my financial burden and allowed me to more fully pursue my dreams,” Harter said.
The four-year merit scholarship is awarded to one incoming freshman with an impressive résumé of academics, extracurricular activities and community service. The scholarship, awarded every four years, was created to provide tuition, housing and expenses as long as the student stays in the Accounting Department and meet the minimum GPA. Harter is the first recipient of the award.
As a Page Scholar, Harter has focused his time on academics rather than finding a way to pay for school. He has taken 150 units, or the equivalent to five years worth of courses, in four years, majoring in accounting with an emphasis in entrepreneurship and international business. In addition, he served as the president of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, a board member of the LMU Professional Organization Counsel, and was a deejay at LMU’s radio station, KXLU 88.9 FM.
After graduating, Harter plans a career with the international accounting firm KPMG and hopes to attend Loyola Law School.
“The Page Scholarship has allowed me incredible opportunities and has motivated me to succeed,” Harter said. “I hope I will be able to give generously to future LMU students and I intend to make this the gift that keeps on giving.”
