LMU Rower Defies Odds to Complete Italian Marathon

When Mike Wither applied to study abroad in Rome, Italy, at the beginning of this summer, he says he was just looking for a fun adventure. An economics major, he had just completed his sophomore year at LMU and had been a member of the men's varsity crew team. When he left Los Angeles for a five-week course in Rome, he was planning to explore the country and hopefully come back with a few stories. What he would come back with is an amazing tale of impulse, determination and competition that led him to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
