LMU Joins Mayor’s Day of Service
Armed with shovels, brooms and garden rakes, more than 300 Loyola Marymount University students spent their Saturday morning improving the landscape at Mar Vista Gardens Recreation Center in West Los Angeles on March 15.
Students carpooled from LMU to Mar Vista where they removed trash, fertilized grounds and planted trees. The event marked the fourth consecutive year that volunteers from LMU form a part of the Mayor’s Day of Service initiative.
Each year the Mayor’s Day of Service brings local community members together to work on neighborhood beautification projects throughout Los Angeles. The goal is to address community needs, provide public education and strengthen community partnerships.
LMU’s Center for Service and Action is charged with recruiting student volunteers for the Mayor’s Office. Mar Vista Gardens Recreation Center is one of 30 separate service projects that benefit local neighborhoods.
